Maybe we haven't seen the last of the Gold Key comics reprints yet

Volume 6 of Checker's Star Trek: The Key Collection has been listed for so long on Amazon that I'd started giving up hope. The expected publication date changed once or twice, but there were no real signs of life -- no solicitations in Diamond Previews, no updated info at the Checker website. But now Amazon has a publication date of November 25, 2008, and someone using the name checkerbpg has posted in Trek-related topics at Newsarama as recently as March 14 that Checker will be publishing a few Trek graphic novels later this year.

In other news...

Amazon has some clues about other developments in Star Trek graphic novels, though the publishers affected haven't made any announcements. All I've got so far, aside from what's on Amazon, is an off-the-record remark from someone knowledgeable but not involved.

As a fan of Dark Horse's Omnibus program, this definitely has potential. (Though now I'm glad I didn't pick up any of the recent DC TPB reissues, if they're going to be including the same content here in a possibly-more-convenient format…

That said, I'm not sure that topical or authorial is the best way to be going about this. I'll wait for the actual contents to be announced before passing judgment, though.

Owww, interesting! I hope this is the start of something ongoing from IDW, more collections are always good, I have gaps in my collection to fill.

As someone who did pick up the DC reissues, this is a little aggravating-- judging by the Amazon description, Best of Peter David will contain The Return of the Worthy, which we just got a year or so ago! There's tons of uncollected Trek comics out there; can't we do some of them?

Topical and authorial is probably the best hook for these things. I suspect Titan's policy of releasing six consecutive and dull TNG stories didn't really work out.

FWIW, it's just been suggested by the aforementioned off-the-record source that the Amazon info may be a tad premature. I haven't been able to get registered on the IDW forums to ask any questions there, and my blog comment on Chris Ryall's blog didn't get any answers yet either.

It may be premature, but that cover art had to come from somewhere
